The Sisters of the Leaven of the Immaculate Heart of Mary promote the devotion to the Alliance of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Pope St. John Paul II said that, "When the soldier pierced the Heart of Jesus with the lance, the Immaculate Heart of Mary was also pierced by the sword" (Insegnamenti di Giovianni Paolo Secondo, 15 September, 1985). It was therefore at the foot of the Cross that the Alliance of Hearts of Jesus and and Mary was sealed and completed.
