The LIHM Sisters arrived in Hanceville, Alabama in 2014, continuing the mission of spreading the love of Jesus and Mary through catechism, formation and house-to-house evangelism. They currently teach at Sacred Heart Elementary School and St. Bernard Prep School in Cullman, Alabama. They teach various subjects including religion, and offer the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and the Atrium
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a program which involves children, catechists, and adults in a common religious experience. In an "atrium," the values of childhood, primarily those values of contemplation and enjoyment of God, are presented to children as part of their learning curriculum and spiritual life. It embraces Maria Montessori's vision of the religious capacity of the child and her methods of teaching them. The sisters opened the first atrium at Sacred Heart Elementary in 2015. At present, they offer Level I (3K-5K), Level II (1st-3rd grade), and Level III (4th-6th grade).
