Ein Karem

A Home of Peace and Joy

Bricks of Peace is a ongoing project dedicated to the construction of the Ein Karem Pioneer House of the Leaven of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (LIHM). Through this initiative, benefactors are invited to honor the faithful departed while directly supporting the care and contemplative mission of LIHM’s elder Sisters.

Rooted in faith, community, and care, Ein Karem is a place where Sisters can live their final years with grace - continuing to live, pray, and serve together in a spirit of agape love.

More than a Building

A Season of Life

Ein Karem is more than a building.
It is a sacred dwelling, a spring of grace in the vineyard of consecrated life. Here, aging Sisters are lovingly accompanied as they complete their earthly pilgrimage, sustained by prayer, community, and the abundant life of others.
Ein Karem is a name rich in biblical meaning and quiet beauty. In Hebrew, Ein means “spring” or “living water,” and Karem means “vineyard.” Together, Ein Karem means “Spring of the Vineyard,” a place of life, fruitfulness, and gentle abundance.
In Scripture and tradition, Ein Karem is the hill country village where Mary visited Elizabeth (Luke 1:39–45). It is a place of encounter, joy, and recognition. Where hidden life was honored, where faith ripened in silence, and where God’s promises were gently fulfilled. It is the place of the Magnificat, where gratitude overflowed and God’s faithfulness was proclaimed.

As the name of a retirement home for aging Sisters, Ein Karem speaks profoundly to this season of life:
  • A spring, not an ending: Though the Sisters have entered a later chapter of life, Ein Karem affirms that they remain a living source of prayer, wisdom, and spiritual nourishment for the Church and the world.
  • A vineyard in its fullness: The vineyard has been cultivated over decades of vowed life, service, sacrifice, and love. Now is the time to dwell among the fruit, harvested not in productivity, but in presence, prayer, and quiet offering.
  • A place of encounter and reverence: Like Mary and Elizabeth, Ein Karem becomes a home where life is recognized as sacred at every stage, where each Sister is seen, honored, and cherished.
“We recognize in the elderly Sister a witness of fidelity and a source of inspiration, encouragement, and strength. Their dedicated service continues while they progress towards a deeper contemplative life of prayer and sacrifice in the community.”

The Bricks of Peace Sacred Memorial Hall

A Sacred Memorial Hall will be established in the left and right wings of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel at the General Motherhouse in San Pablo, Laguna. Along these walls, engraved aluminum memorial plates will be permanently affixed as enduring signs of remembrance, prayer, and peace.
  • The left wing is graced by the Statue of the Divino Niño
  • The right wing is adorned with the Icon of the Divine Mercy
  • Each wing includes a memorial votive candle stand, inviting ongoing prayer and reflection
Each aluminum plate will be laser engraved with the name of the faithful departed and the date of their death anniversary, creating a lasting tribute within this holy space. On each death anniversary, a commemoration candle will be reverently lit in remembrance.

Spiritual Benefits of Perpetuity

Those memorialized through the Bricks of Peace will be enrolled as Spiritual Members of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel and will share perpetually in the following spiritual benefits offered by the LIHM Sisters:
  • The merits attached to the daily Liturgy of the Hours
  • The merits attached to the daily recitation of the Holy Rosary
  • All Masses celebrated at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, including a special Memorial Mass on the death anniversary
  • Good works and sacrifices offered by the LIHM Sisters
Through Bricks of Peace, remembrance becomes prayer, and prayer becomes a living foundation, supporting the home of the Sisters while entrusting our loved ones to the mercy and love of God.
